About

We started with one drum and a stubborn belief.

Maren is a small roastery and cafe on the North-East coast of England. We work with a short list of farms, roast in small drums, and try to stay out of the coffee's way.

How we work

Three principles, written down so we can stick to them.

Named farms only

Every lot lists the farm. If we can't tell you who grew it, we don't pour it.

Small drums, small lots

Production roasts cap at 12kg. That keeps us honest about what we can ship at quality.

Patient with the cup

We rest beans for a week before they meet a kettle. The first pour after roast is always the worst.
